Professor Layton is fucking amazing. It's ENTIRELY a puzzle/riddle game, so if that's not your kind of thing, then you won't like it. But it has a really great way of blending all of the puzzles (all 120 main quest ones) into the actual progression of the game. They're not the simple brain teaser stuff found in the Brain Age games. Some of these things are incredibly difficult.
There IS a story involved, so it's not just solving random puzzle after random puzzle. The two main characters are both unique and awesome. And it just has a really charming style. I definitely consider the best DS game of 2008, and best DS game I've played so far.

The game is worth every cent whenever you can spare the cash. It lasted me a nice chunk of 20 some odd hours to complete the story and finish all 120 in-game puzzles (plus 12 bonus puzzles you get for completing certain in-game objectives).
Most new console games can barely last 12-15 hours, so for a little handheld game to go up to 20 is phenomenal. Especially when you consider that it's a puzzle game.

I havnt got a DS that gets the title "The Most Epic DS game of a year" besides that.
There great games but not worth that much.
