Do any of you watch those sappy movies that make you want to curl up into the fetus position cry and wish the world was not so cruel?

Well I do, and I cry!

Lol. The Green Mile is one I cry when watching.
Anime usually though. Like Pretear, and Yuna. Terribly sad.

I'd say the best sad movie I've ever seen... would be "A walk to remember."

Sappy movies aren't sad. They're melodramatic.

Real "sad" movies are the stuff that wrenches your heart, makes you question the decency of humanity, of one's desires, and of life in general.

    See:

    • Oldboy
    • Cache (you need a lot of patience to get through this movie, not because it's violent or bloody - it's actually quite the opposite. It's because the movie is paced very, very slowly, and there is little action throughout the whole thing; but the questions it raises about personal guilt and fear are amazing)
    • Gladiator
    • A L'Interieur (Inside)
    • Martyrs
    • Dancer in the Dark
    • The Sweet Hereafter

I'm actually a huge Shakespeare fan, in general. So yes.

But the version starring Kenneth Branagh as Iago and Lawrence Fishburne as Othello. Not that shitty contemporary-remake "O."

If 'A Walk To Remember' is the same movie I'm thinking it was then that is one movie that I love. It's the first movie I cried during with 'real' people in it.

i also fell in love with Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

The Patriot also makes me tear up at times, especially when the little girl finally speaks.

also the part in The Last Samurai where Algren is kneeling before the emperor and his face turns really red when he speaks about Matsumoto.

    Sad

Such a pure love! Some day I too wish to feel it so. Although hopefully with out the whole die'n young part.

I also did enjoy Last Samurai, Gladiator, and the Patriot. However none of them effected me as much as "a walk to remember."
