Rarely does a movie about revenge have you sympathize with more than just one character: in Kill Bill, all we care about is Beatrix Kiddo (The Bride) getting justice. Why? Because she is the only character whose life has been so dramatically effected by unfortunate circumstances. That's why people enjoy revenge movies; a sense of one character versus the world, good versus evil.
But in this movie, Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance, there are at least two pivotal figures on a quest for vengeance - and, at most, if you were to examine even the minor characters, a total of four people throughout the movie who are owed their due justice.
This is the first film in the aptly named "Vengeance Trilogy" by Chan-wook Park; the second and third movies are "Oldboy," and "Sympathy For Lady Vengeance," respectively.
I recommend anyone who enjoys foreign movies and a brilliantly woven tale of revenge to check out not just one of these movies, but all three.
