Re: Star Ocean: The Last Hope
Lol. No. It came out today. =O The 24th. I was gonna get it... But I don't want to be left with ten dollars for the next two weeks.
Unless they're holding it until tomorrow.

Re: Star Ocean: The Last Hope
Probably came out here. Dunno though, maybe just began to ship.
Star Ocean seems like a game you guys seem to love. What exactly is the outline, fighting styles and shii?

Uhh, well it's RTB. Have you played any of the Tales Of Symphonia games? Star Ocean is a LOT like that.

1. Epic space opera of inter-galactic proportions.
2. Real-time battle system with three dimensional free roam on an enclosed battlefield zone.

Re: Star Ocean: The Last Hope
Oh... Well, it's okay.
Here is a bit more.
I wish they kept the Japanese version of the games looks.
Here it is compared:
American[menu]:
Japanese[menu]:
American[battle]:
Japanese[battle]:
I think the battle version of the game in Japanese looks a LOT cooler. But the American version looks, eh. Not as cool. I think the menu of the game looks cool in both versions. The Japanese one is more girly though.

Re: Star Ocean: The Last Hope
I have a small annoyance with what they changed between the two versions. And that is the battle character portraits. They're computer-generated images in the NA version, and cell-shaded in the Japanese.
It's like tri-Ace just expects all Americans to hate anime so they changed it to look more "realistic."
Fuck. That. Shit. Give me my cell-shaded goodness.

Re: Star Ocean: The Last Hope
That's what I really hate... I mean, come on. It's something that is in EVERY Star Ocean game... Other than this one.

It's a technically beautiful game, but beauty's in the eye of the beholder.
Okami, to me, is visually the most beautiful game ever made. And that uses a simple watercolor style. I would gladly take games that are more artistically beautiful then technically/realistically.

Yes Okami was beautiful but even still... Just the areas and landscape in the game is something to be reckoned with. Just trust me on this though it is beautiful.

Re: Star Ocean: The Last Hope
Complaints with Star Ocean so far:
1. The camera system. Did the person who developed the camera have Tourette Syndrome? On the open field, it's difficult to judge the distance between enemies or objects, especially if trying to avoid a surprise attack or trigger a preemptive. It spazzes out when you enter doorways, and has so few options in combat. Which leads me to...
2. The combat system. Overall it's a pretty fun system, however:
I guess coming off the heels of Tales of Vesperia, which had a phenomenal combat system for an action RPG, makes me more critical of this one. Still, tri-Ace should know better.
P.S:
3. It lacks Cliff and Albel.

2. The combat system. Overall it's a pretty fun system, however:
- You can't manually target other enemies (and if you can the game does a piss-poor job of telling you that during its otherwise over-flooded battle tutorial). If you want to target another enemy, you have to be standing RIGHT next to them. And even still the game AI has A.D.D. so it might take a few seconds for the new target to register. This is shitty for one main reason - Blindsides. I don't WANT to target that fucker on the other side of the map, I want to target the bitch barreling head-on right for me.
- The moves themselves aren't very streamlined. Yes, you can chain basic combos with skills, but that's nothing special. Being able to hit an enemy once, kill it, and then INSTANTLY switch to the nearest target and continue the combo would've been much more smooth. Instead, if I hit an enemy once and it kills them, the combo ends and the character just stops attacking for a second till a new target registers. So for a second he just stands there like an idiot before I can start attacking again.
- The battlefield is far too large for such a limiting camera. In the default view it sits right on top of you and virtually limits your field of view by 70% of the area. And if you anchor it, it zooms out for a slightly better isometric view, but the battlefield itself is still too large. And a bird's eye camera angle in this kind of game is not something you want.
I guess coming off the heels of Tales of Vesperia, which had a phenomenal combat system for an action RPG, makes me more critical of this one. Still, tri-Ace should know better.
P.S:
